Helen Mason was born in Wakefield and has lived in Scotland, London and Devon prior to settling in Ripon in 2012.
She has two degrees from the Open University and has worked in adult education, the NHS and in local government. She therefore has a broad range of experience in the public sector.
In March 2020 at the start of the covid pandemic, she co-founded the Ripon mutual aid group, "Call to Arms", supporting over 400 vulnerable and self-isolating households and co-ordinating over 30 volunteers.
She has an allotment at Riverview and is a keen gardener.
