Born at Lancashire Royal Infirmary on the 20th March 1996, Luke is a confessed "Yorkshire lad at heart" and has proudly spent the majority of his life in Craven where he attended Ingleton Middle School and Settle College. Upon leaving Settle College in 2014, Luke moved to Sheffield to undertake a joint honours degree at Sheffield Hallam University, later graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Public Relations and Media. Following his graduation, Luke continued to live, work and volunteer in Sheffield until returning to Ingleton in April 2020 to help care for his grandmother before she passed in August following a brief battle with cancer. Luke decided to remain in Ingleton, supported by his ability to work remotely in his role as Content and Promotions Assitant within Higher Education. Outside of work and the party, he volunteers as a Section Assistant within Ingleborough District Scouts and regularly enjoys mountain biking through the Dales with his family.
During his time in Sheffield, Luke held a significant number of elected and voluntary roles, from ensuring the smooth and democratic running of national conferences and supporting the passing of policy affecting seven million students across the UK to working as an Independent Advisor for South Yorkshire Police, working closely with the force's Community Engagement team and staff from South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner's Office on several issues. In September 2018, Luke was elected as Vice-Chair within Sheffield's Equality Hub Network, established by Sheffield City Council, the hubs allowed agencies, groups, communities and individuals to come together as part of a specific group, during his time Luke worked closely with councillors and cabinet members from Sheffield City Council on a range of matters, from hate crime reporting to community services and helped facilitate consultations and reports on a range of topics from clean air to public transport, domestic abuse to council services.
Outside of democracy and equality, Luke has been active in health and wellbeing, from working closely and then volunteering with Sheffield's largest charity for young people to spending four years volunteering within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's Prevention, Promotion and Outreach team within their Sexual Health service. Here, Luke staffed clinic receptions and went into community settings to support the delivery of onsight testing, education and support.
Luke joined the Liberal Democrats in the Autumn of 2020, a decision, he admits to being "long overdue" but he is glad to have finally found his 'home'. Upon attending his first Craven Branch meeting in January, Luke has already become a rising star within the local party after being elected to the Skipton and Ripon Constituency Executive Committee after attending to discuss engagement with young people to being appointed as Craven Branch Vice Chair and selection as the local party's candidate for Craven ward of Penyghent and North Yorkshire division of Ribblesdale.
Luke currently holds membership with the following associated organisations: Young Liberals UK, LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, ALDC, Green Liberal Democrats and the Northern Liberals Network.
